Electrolytes
Electrolytes are the charged minerals dissolved in blood: sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, and phosphorus. They keep nerves firing, muscles contracting, and fluid sitting in the right compartment. Kidneys, hormones, diet, and medicines move them every day. On a preventive panel they are a check on hydration and on the organs that hold that balance.
What this group shows
- Sodium and chloride move with water. They are the pair most affected by dehydration and by how much you drink.
- Potassium and magnesium are the muscle and heart minerals. They often fall together with certain medicines and with losses from the gut.
- Phosphorus, reported as inorganic phosphorus, partners with calcium. The kidney group on this panel includes that calcium result.

How to use this page
This page explains what the measurement is for. It is educational. Your Healiam report includes the reference interval for your age and sex, and a clinician reads that result with your history, medicines, and the rest of the panel. Talk with a clinician before changing diet, supplements, or treatment because of a number on a report.
