Lipids

Lipids are the fats traveling in your blood: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides. Cholesterol itself is necessary. The useful question is the pattern — how much is carried in LDL particles, how much in HDL, and whether triglycerides are high. Adult screening categories below are the widely used cutoffs. Your report also shows the interval applied to your result. A single panel is a starting point, read with blood pressure, glucose, and family history.

What this group shows

  • LDL is the cholesterol most directly tied to plaque in arteries. Lower is the direction guidelines aim for in adults.
  • HDL is the cholesterol often called protective. Higher is the favorable direction, and a low HDL is its own risk marker.
  • Triglycerides respond quickly to food, alcohol, and sugar. This is the number a missed fast will distort.

How to use this page

This page explains what the measurement is for. It is educational. Your Healiam report includes the reference interval for your age and sex, and a clinician reads that result with your history, medicines, and the rest of the panel. Talk with a clinician before changing diet, supplements, or treatment because of a number on a report.
