Vitamin D, LDH, and carbon dioxide do not belong to the organ groups above, and they change how those groups are read. Vitamin D connects bone, calcium, and phosphorus. LDH is an enzyme in many tissues, so a rise says cells were injured without saying which organ. Carbon dioxide on a chemistry panel is mostly bicarbonate, the blood’s alkaline buffer, and it completes the electrolyte picture with sodium and chloride.
What this group shows
- Vitamin D is reported as 25-hydroxyvitamin D, the storage form used to judge status. The adult interval on this panel is 30–100 ng/mL.
- LDH rises when cells anywhere are damaged. Read it with AST, ALT, and the CBC before deciding it is “the liver” or “the blood.”
- Carbon dioxide (bicarbonate) moves opposite chloride when acid–base balance shifts. Low suggests acid building up or bicarbonate being lost.
