This group looks at filtration and at a few neighbors of kidney chemistry. Creatinine and urea nitrogen reflect how well the kidneys are clearing waste. Uric acid is a waste of purine metabolism that the kidneys excrete. Calcium is tightly tied to kidney handling, bone, and parathyroid hormone. Creatine kinase is the exception in the list: it is a muscle enzyme, reported here and read differently from creatinine.
What this group shows
- Creatinine is the everyday filtration marker. Urea nitrogen moves with it, and also with protein intake and dehydration.
- Calcium is included because the kidneys, bone, and parathyroid glands set its level. Read it with phosphorus and vitamin D.
- Creatine kinase comes from muscle. A high result points at muscle, not at the filtering units of the kidney.
